| The Connecticut International Baccalaureate Academy is the fifth "house" of East Hartford High School. It functions independently while housing some classes from the high school. Based on international standards of achievement and designed as a public preparatory school, it addresses the needs of highly motivated students. Spaces are organized on two floors around a central atrium, which also acts as the main entrance, and from the high school via a bridge. Spaces involving advanced teaching methods, unique to the curriculum, are displayed behind its glass walls. Glass block provides natural light in exit stairs, restrooms, and the fitness center. Second floor art rooms take advantage of even north light. A clearstory allows sunlight into corridors through glass block floors Lockers were clustered with restrooms so the corridor walls could display student work. Furniture in the clusters encourages informal meetings. The library, fitness center, and cafeteria are designed for public use and grouped for access and security. Cameras in the adjacent lecture hall permit live public meetings. Every learning space has a digital projector connected to the network and an interactive white board. Servers are placed in a network administration room adjacent to the computer lab and stacked wire closets. Wireless access points are located throughout, while cable access is distributed through overhead cable trays and underfloor wireways. |
